Definition: The act of attributing reverent honor and homage to God.

Worship to me has always been with music, whether that be live or listening to Spotify. But just recently, I learned that worship can be in any form… Like sitting still with no music and just being in His presence. Feeling the breeze, feeling the sun, feeling the grass brush against my leg, feeling him through all of this. Now worshiping via music will always be something I do because that’s the best way I can connect with God, but discovering what true worship is and different ways I can worship has been very rewarding. Here are some things I have discovered about what worship is…
  • Worship is a response to God
    • “We love Him because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)
  • Worship is declaring worth and value
    • “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first [foremost] commandment.” (Mark 12:30)
  • Worship is “heart-felt”
    • “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” (John 4:23)
  • Worship is giving not getting
    • I don’t have any bible verses about this, but this is very, very important. Sometimes when I worship I worry too much about how I sound or how to look and not about why I’m doing it. I’m worrying too much about what I’m getting out of worship instead of what I’m supposed to be giving.

I have provided links to my YouTube account that has 2 clips of our worship today… Right before it, our ministry host (David) was talking to the worship class about making the choice to worship instead of worshiping because we have a scheduled time slot for it. He reminded us, that all it takes is for some of us to start singing and others will join. And soon after he told us that, we tried it and It worked! After a couple of songs, the whole squad joined… it was a beautiful moment, and a good lesson learned. I can’t wait to see how this will affect our squad in the future. Thanks for reading!

  3. I love this so much, Parker! In the past week or so God’s been reminding me of the purposes of spiritual disciplines, like sabbath, silence/solitude, prayer, scripture reading, community, service…. and how ALL of them are an act of worship. Love that we’re learning together halfway across the world. 🙂 Love you and praying for you, buddy!

  4. I love all that you are learning!! Worshiping Him is so fulfilling. Love you PDW!

  9. Wow – Parker, I love how your perspective is changing and growing to include all forms of worship. You should look into the 7 Hebrew words for worship again (that we went over at training camp and that I sent you in an email) – I think it could bring another level of impact and understanding and depth with God!

  10. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the future leaders of our country singing praises to THE ONE who can do it all! Thank you Lord for our many blessings and for pouring into and holding the “temple builders” close.

  11. Thanks for the blog, and the reminders about worship. It’s crazy to even think about the fact that we are to worship God and give him praise and that he’s right there beside us. And worshiping to worship and not just when there is a time slot is also such a big thing cause we can start to try to box God unto this time but he’s worthy of our praise all the time.
